Bedroom Colours That Will Make You Wake Up Happier

Updated: Feb 13, 2022

Let’s face it — the hardest part of the day is mustering up the motivation to get out of bed. But with the right colour palette and ambience, you can create a space that makes it a tad bit easier to start your day.

In fact, the right colours will actually make you wake up happier. While the scientific grounds are thin, research does suggest that colours have a great impact on one's emotions and feelings.

This is because colours play a massive role in defining our mood, happiness, and even performance. So, adapting your bedroom walls is a great way to invoke a positive mindset and boost productivity.

Grab your paintbrush as we dive into a range of different colours perfect for your bedroom!

Hues Of Blue

Blue promotes rejuvenation and peace, so it’s no surprise that it takes the prize when it comes to bedroom colours. If you’re seeking a relaxed, calming atmosphere when you wake up (or even just chilling in your bedroom), this serene colour is for you!

However, it’s helpful to keep in mind that blue can come across as cold and chilly, and darker shades can invoke sadness. You can tackle the issue by using soft hues of blue for the walls and bedding. This can be complemented by using the darker shade in decor and accessories, such as royal blue pots for plants and touches of dark blue in the rug’s pattern.

Also — a combination of blue(s) and white creates the ideal, ocean-y setting for vacay-lovers!

Laid-back Lilac

Lilac is a fresh colour, contributing to a cheerful yet laid-back ambience. Like other pastel shades, lilac contributes to a restful environment, improving the quality of your sleep and ultimately making you wake up happier. Both subtle and bright shades of the colour can be used for all walls of the bedroom, depending on personal preference. Bolder shades can be tossed in through accessories and accents.

For the details, go for a light-wooden headboard to keep things smooth and add a punch of pink through vibrant cushions (and perhaps a throw blanket) for the ultimate aesthetic.

Go Green

If you’re on the hunt for a sleep oasis (and love the Great outdoors), green should be your go-to bedroom colour. Green is a fresh and relaxing hue, adding a touch of nature to your interior. The natural outdoorsy feeling created is believed to uplift moods — especially when you wake up to it in the morning.

Paint one wall of your room a dark, dull shade of green (an accent wall that is). Balance it out by using white bedding and artwork — a green tropical print on both would make the space strikingly beautiful! Finally, introduce a large green plant in one corner of the room for a dream-green room.

If you incorporate lots of wood (for the headboard, flooring, and furniture), you’ll feel like you’re waking up in the middle of a lush rainforest.

Yay, Yellow!

If you’re a fan of eclectic-style decor, yellow is the perfect addition to your bedroom. This colour takes inspiration from the sunshine — and transports a few rays straight into your room! Yellow communicates happiness and works very well with low-light interiors.

However, according to the colour psychology of yellow, too much of the colour can create feelings of frustration. So, we’d recommend adding bursts of yellow through accents like artwork, blankets, chair(s), and cushions.

For the rest of the room, use neutral colours, such as a combination of white and beige or grey. This helps create the perfect blend of energetic and restful vibes, ensuring your room doesn’t get too overwhelming.

Breezy Beige

Where are our neutral-loving readers at?! This one’s for you!

A versatile, subtle, and warm shade, beige is anything but boring. It makes it easy to change up accessories while decorating for different seasons and creates a wonderful contrast with more colours than you think.

One of our favourite combinations with beige is dusty blue soft furnishings and lots of wooden textures — if you want to wake up to a serene walk on a sandy beach, this set-up will do you good!

You can also add in some comfy wicker furniture and decor to take your bedroom one step closer to dream boho chic.
